With rare exception, organizations eligible as approved charitable organizations are either: 1) nonprofit organizations that are exempt under Section 501(c)(3) of the Internal Revenue Code, or 2) government agencies. To be eligible, the charitable organization must engage in some meaningful action aimed at colorectal cancer prevention and early detection.
Any nonprofit organization that meets these requirements is encouraged to apply for approved charitable organization status. Groups encouraged to apply include national and local cancer education and awareness groups, community-based self-help and support groups, community health education and outreach programs, community-based preventive health service programs, and schools with a health or science curriculum that includes a section on colorectal cancer prevention and early detection.
The initial set of qualifying organizations is principally comprised of founding and collaborating partners in National Colorectal Cancer Awareness Month.
As of today you can choose one of 39 approved charitable organizations to support.
A Short List
If the complete list is too extensive, then consider sponsoring one of the following six organizations. On limited resources they have been exceptionally effective in creating colorectal cancer awareness during the past year.
American Cancer Society - Awareness
Cancer Research Foundation of America - Advocacy and awareness
Colon Cancer Alliance - Survivor support and advocacy group
Colorectal Cancer Network - Survivor support group
Eric Davis Foundation - Awareness
National Colorectal Cancer Research Alliance - Awareness
These six groups are the first groups listed in the complete list. You can also sponsor all six of these organizations through one special code. Funds will be distributed to all six organizations evenly. To do so:
